Saturnus, Caravaggio, 16th c.

… excuse me while I move so I do not get hit by the bolt of lightning here.

I know I am tempting fate here by saying that we have had predictions of dire weather patterns … all winter … and none of them have come true.

But this time we are relying on both science and history … mythological history, but history nonetheless.

They have given this storm a name … Saturn. Like the planet. Like the car. Like the rocket.

Like the god.

He was the first god of the Capitol; and what is the weather forecast of Washington DC, anyway?

… whose reign was depicted as a Golden Age of abundance and peace; Oh, good thing we have no problems with finances at the Capitol.

… whose temple was housed the state treasury; And there is surely no confusion on how best to spend money at the Capitol.

… who was seen as a god of generation, dissolution, plenty, wealth, agriculture, periodical renewal and liberation; That is always a good thing, right?

He even has his own holiday … a celebration … Saturnelius.

And that was described as ” a temporary release from civilized constraint”

He was celebrated at what is perhaps the most famous of the Roman festivals, the Saturnalia, a time of feasting, role reversals, free speech, gift-giving and revelry.

What could possibly go wrong?

Yesterday they weren’t even sure it was going to hit here.midwest

And it is not even here yet.

Not for another hour … hour and a half tops.

tomorrowThey have even provided us with a handy-dandy map as to what will be happening tomorrow.

How bad could it possibly be?

Does my reaction remind you of someone whistling in the dark?

Most people around here are reacting calmly … running to the store and emptying the shelves of anything and everything … but calmly.

That is the adult equivalent to school children sitting around waiting and hoping for them to cancel school.

I haven’t bothered to turn on the TV to see if schools are cancelled.

14779_359854500796852_899817066_nOne of the great things about working from home. The weather does not stop you from doing your work.

How lucky am I anyway?

I understand that in Pittsburgh they even have an instruction manual … for driving in the snow. Now that is handy.

We are all prepared.

Earlier I thought I had it all figured out.

There was a nice electrician at the house here today putting up security lights and whatnot. He was nice looking. Had sexy eyes. A great personality. Nice smile. And he was four years older than me, although he looks about ten years younger.

After the late heartbreak, I figured I would never notice another man again. So it’s obvious what is causing this bad weather.

Hell is indeed freezing over.
