TDA – TV Download Addiction? Megathon?
Surely there is a word for this.
I have spent a bulk of the day watching a lot of this past season … and then some … of recorded episodes of Person Of Interest. It’s pretty much the only show I record on my DVR. And no, you cannot get it on Netflix, or I would reactivate my account to watch all the back episodes.
In past times … after hearing nothing but praise for it … I indulged in a binge weekend (or two) of watching Downton Abbey. The First Season on the Netflix Stream. The Second and Third Season on DVD’s from the local video store.
By the end of it all, I was totally hooked and suffered mild withdrawal upon finding out that there was not going to be a Fourth Season for quite a number of months.
It reminded me of when I discovered Lie To Me on television … and did the same thing. Once totally hooked on the show, the premise, and the characters … they cancelled it.
And now that I think of it, I did the same thing upon discovering Northern Exposure many years ago. Except back then you could only watch the episodes on TV and buy the tapes. VCR tapes. It was pre-DVD time.
Seinfeld was a different type of binge. It was shown every night locally at 7 PM in syndication … so I recorded every night … and watched them all at the same time or in big bulks. Even though I had not watched it when it was on in prime time.
Same with NYPD Blue, except it was on cable (A&E?) several times a day / week / month. Oh, and The Sopranos. Another series I didn’t watch while it was on the air … but watched in huge amounts after it was off air.
So in my heart of hearts I am pretty sure that I am not the only one who does this. There have to be others who enjoy skipping all the commercials and following the series one right after the other.
And surely it has an official name.
But for the life of me I cannot find the popular name for it. Maybe we can make one up?
Help a sista out here?
