… or is it Happy Doughnut Day?
The official Wikipedia page for it all says National Doughnut Day. Talks all about its origins back in 1938. But then they follow it up with this quote:
I’m OK with toruses, but crème or jelly filled non-toruses are my favorites. Or would that be tori?
The Grammarist says Doughnut outnumbers Donut use two to one … saying the following:
The dictionary-approved spelling for the ring-shaped cake made of dough and fried in fat is doughnut. The shortened donut has been around since the late 1800s, but it wasn’t popularized until the late 20th century, when the successful American doughnut chain Dunkin’ Donuts made it ubiquitous.
Is that ubiquitous with crème filling? Or ubiquitous rings? Personally I think its ubiquitous with sprinkles, but that’s just a guess.
Homer Simpson says “Donuts” but then he also says “D’oh”. So there is that.
The web page for it all had “Doughnut” in the text of it all … and “Donut” in the wording that shows on the browser tab.
I think this is one of those great unanswered questions of life.
If the Krispy Kreme was still open, it would have been difficult to pick. After all, their Raspberry Filled Donuts are pretty much my favorite in the whole world. Followed closely by Boston Crème. One of my normal morning coffee mugs is a Krispy Kreme mug, after all.
But they closed their doors recently.
So of course I had to make the proverbial trek to the home of the new Lemonade Donuts and Key Lime Pie Donuts at the local Dunkin’ Donuts.
Between the incredibly long line of folks wanting their Free Donut and the normal donut people, I had to wait a good long while to get to the front of the line.
And as long as I was there … and ordered the required drink … well, it was a shame to only get one, right?
So I am now the proud owner of a half-dozen of their finest.
Including two Lemonade Donuts and two Key Lime Pie Donuts.
Except the one I already ate.
What can I say? It’s a weakness.
I’m thinking today is probably not the day to start any kind of weight loss thing.
Tomorrow is not looking too good either.
