I don’t know why I was the chosen one of the three of us. But Mom picked me to go for a ride today.
Lucky me.
Not that I am complaining, mind you. But the last time Mom took me for a ride, it was to go to the doctor. And she gave me a shot after I got weighed and measured. So to say that I was a little hesitant is an understatement.
Now, quite frankly I think I’m getting a little old for this. The Easter Bunny? Seriously?
I am almost thirteen after all. And with a birthday of April Fools Day you can imagine the jokes I have had to endure over the years. Actually April first is the day Mom adopted me … so we aren’t totally sure what my birthday really is. But that’s close enough.
The day was warm for a change, so we had the window down and I totally enjoyed the wind blowing my hair around. So many interesting things to see. So many new and wonderful smells to smell.
When we got to the store, it was a little hard for me to get out of the car. I’m not all that tall and the ground is a big drop from the seat for me.
Once inside I saw the Great White Creature in the distance … with everyone standing around waiting their turn to have their picture taken. I am sure I was the oldest one there.
One tiny little thing was on the Easter Bunny’s lap … in a basket. A basket. Of all the degrading things. But he didn’t seem to mind. And his Daddy was positively glowing.
Most everyone was well-behaved. Except for this one bitch … and I don’t use that term lightly … who snarled at me. Snarled. At me. Like she wanted to fight, for goodness sake.
I haven’t been in a fight since Hector was a pup … Oh that’s right … you probably don’t know Hector.
At any rate, when my turn came of course I tripped over the doorway leading up to the Easter Bunny. But I didn’t feel too bad about it. Mom tripped too.
But when the Easter Bunny’s head started to fall off … well, even an almost thirteen year old is going to be a little shook by that, right? I think I heard the Easter Bunny say some naughty words under his breath. I guess he has had a long day too.
Lots of pictures, a donation and a special treat for me later, we went out and got back in the car for the trip home. I’m not saying I lorded it over the other two, but after all I was the chosen one today.
Mom just held me close and told me what a good girl I was today. That lump on my leg has started to bother me a little bit. I think I’m going to take a nap now.
She rubbed my tummy again. Right where the other lump is growing.
She said this was the last year I would probably have to do this. Thank goodness. I just can’t figure out why she had tears in her eyes when she said that.
I mean it was a fundraiser for the ASPCA after all.
